Homestead Strike of 1892Success for Andrew Carnegie came with a price. In Homestead, Pennsylvania, the Carnegie Steel Company tried to lower wages of the employees at that plant, except there was one problem: the workers notices. The workers were not happy, and to protest, they went on strike and did not work in order to get their wages raised back to normal. The

manager at the factory, Henry Frick, sent in Pinkerton thugs so that the workers would be intimidated and go back to work. All that did was start violence between the workers and the thugs. Despite Carnegie being away at the time of the strike, many blamed him for the manager's actions during the strike. This incident would harm his reputation and disturb him forever. |
